The Letter O

Welcome back!  We started off well on our first day back after our Thanksgiving break.  We found our new carpet squares for December and got settled in with our morning routine. After reading "My O Book," we brainstormed some "short o"words together. For language arts rotations, we read our new mini-book "I Am a Doctor" and did the tactile page "Cheerios on Os on an Octopus." My groups read Sam and Mat Book #2 "See Sam and Mat" and worked on our "O" handwriting. The other two groups had secret centers.  After snack and recess, we learned our new poem "Old Woman in a Shoe" and had math. We worked on addition sentences, focusing on the plus sign and equals sign.

After lunch, we read "Morris' Disappearing Bag" and introduced the topic of holidays. We then made poinsettia art by cutting out leaves and petals and arranging them on black construction paper. We also introduced Emerson as our Star of the Week. She shared her beautiful poster with the class and took questions. We went to the big yard for P.E. We practiced bouncing and passing a playground ball in groups. When we got back to class, we looked at our Food flip chart, did some oral blending and rhyming, and read the story "Apple Farmer Annie."  Then we put up our chairs, passed out the homework, and lined up for home.

Be sure to look over the homework for the week. A note about next week's Scholastic Book Fair is included. So  is a reminder about the Ethnicity Doll project, which is due next Wednesday, December 11th.
