The Earth and a Busy Afternoon

I'm back!  We had another busy Wednesday in Room 2. The class seemed happy to have me back this morning, although it sounded like everything went fine yesterday in my absence. We had our regular morning business to get things going. Then I read "L is for Lobster" and "Thank You Thanksgiving!" to get us ready for centers. During our language arts rotations, we had a lion "L" phonics page and tried to write sentences with "L" words on the back. At my table, groups made a thankful turkey. We sounded out words of things that we are thankful for. Other groups had secret centers.  After snack and recess, we had science. We're starting an Earth Science unit, so we read a book on the solar system. Then we talked about the Earth and what covers the Earth: land, water, and air.  We colored in an Earth green and blue to represent the land and water.

After lunch, we recited "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and did rhyming and oral blending. You may have noticed that the Secret Passletter had become the Secret Password as we enter the room. We are focusing on putting letter sounds together and blending them into a word. Then we had Star of the Week. Basia brought two books. She read "Ruby Packs Her Suitcase" and I read "What Makes a Rainbow?" We went to Ms. Ingram for music next. She had us march to the beat of a drum, sing some songs, played the xylophone, use rhythm sticks, play a singing game, and freeze dance all in 45 minutes!  From there we went to Coach Angel. He had us work on throwing and accuracy by playing a game where we tried to knock down a cone with a gator ball. After a drink and bathroom break, we went to the library. Mr. K read us "I Know an Old Lady that Swallowed a Fly." When we finally got back to our room, all we did was pack up and get ready for home. I did pass out the photographs from Picture Day, so look for them. If you need retakes, the day for that is Thursday, November 14th.
