The Letter V
We had good Tuesday back in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders, having Nutrition, and taking care of our morning activities. We read "My 'V' Book" and brainstormed some "V" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on neat "v" handwriting, a "v" sentence, and using crayons, glue, and vinyl to make the tactile page "Vinyl on 'V's on a Vest." My groups took the chapter 7 math test and read "Sam and Mat" book #3. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we went to the Tech Lab. Ms. Castro helped us start using Lexia Reading Core 5, a computer based program to build reading skills. At conferences, I will give parents more information about the program, as well as your child's username and password to star using the program at home. When we got back to Room 2, we learned our new sight words and recited our new poem, "There Was a Crooked Man."
After lunch, we read two books about money: "Spending and Saving" and "Pennies." We are going to spend Presidents' Day week learning about money, specifically identifying coins and coin values. Today we looked at pennies. We learned that Abraham Lincoln is on the front, and the Lincoln Memorial is on back. Then students worked to find pennies and match like coins. We also learned about Dr. Maulana Karenga, the man that invented Kwanzaa, for African American History Month. To end the day, we met with our Reading Buddies in Room 19 to finish coloring our Dr. Karenga pictures and look at books. Then we packed up, passed out homework packets, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!
Be sure to look over homework for the week. Note that the field trip is Friday. Also, a packet for the Science Fair is included. Science Fair projects are optional, but encouraged. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Projects must be turned in by Thursday, March 17.
