The Letter U and Lunar New Year

We had a pretty good Monday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and having Nutrition. Next, we took care of our morning activities. Then we read "My 'U' Book" and tried to come up with some "short u" words. Remember in your homework, you may include words that have the "short u" in the middle of the word, as in sun. At language arts rotations, students worked on neat "u" handwriting and using crayons, glue, plus plastic forks, knives, and spoons to make the tactile page "Utensils on 'U's on an Umbrella." My groups worked on making Valentine's Day cards. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had math. We worked on taking apart the numbers 16 to 19.

After lunch, we learned our new sight words for the week and recited our new poem, "Little Boy Blue." We were supposed to have art, but Ms. Maria had to reschedule again. So instead, we read "The Valentine Bears" and painted part of the holiday gift we're making. For Star of the Week, we introduced Kaia. She shared her cool poster and took questions from the class. For P.E., we played on the big yard. When we got back, we read "The Race," the story that explains the Lunar New Year and the animals represented. We created a dragon (although it actually should be a lion) to lead the celebration. They look neat!  Hopefully, they made it home in one piece. Then we packed up, passed out homework, gave out prizes for twenty super star sticks (we ran out of time on Friday), and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!

Be sure to look over homework packets for the week. 100 Day books are due tomorrow. Our Valentine's Day ice cream party will be on Thursday. Also, Ms. Nichols asked that I give everyone the words to our poem and song that we will perform at the Black History Month celebration on February 25. See me if you have any questions or concerns.
