The "L Blends" Bl, Gl, Pl, and Cl
We had a nice Monday back in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and having Nutrition outside. Then we read "Clark and Cleo's Clouds" and brainstormed several "L Blend" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on finding "bl, gl, pl, and cl" words and writing "L Blend" sentences. My groups took the Topic 14 math test and worked on Mother's Day writing. The other groups had their first secret center of this rotation. They include: Painting amazing creatures at the Art Center, games at Starfall.com and PBSKids.org at the Computer Center, listening to "The Very Lazy Ladybug" by Isobel Finn at the Listening Center, Butterfly addition practice at the Math Center, and Magni-Tiles, Lincoln Logs, Butterflies, and Sea Creatures at the Play Center. After recess, we learned our new sight words for the week, recited "It's Raining," and had math. We worked on positioning shapes inside and outside of objects. It was pretty easy!
After lunch, we read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and continued our theme of insects. We finished "My Insect Book" by writing about caterpillars and butterflies and using insect vocabulary to fill in word blanks in sentences. Then we introduced Abby as our Star of the Week. She shared her beautiful poster and took questions from the class. After P.E. on the kindergarten yard, we started a butterfly project. We are making a plate that illustrates the life cycle of a butterfly. We worked on labeling it today. Tomorrow, we will add color, pasta, and more to make it look really cool. Then we packed up, passed out homework and Spring Picture Day photos, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!
Be sure to check over homework packets for the week. The aforementioned Spring Pictures are included. Send back order forms if you're interested in purchasing them. Also, note that we have a Music Workshop/Performance for parents to watch NEXT Tuesday, May 12. Lastly, remember that those Animal Report & Diorama projects are due NEXT Wednesday, May 13. They may be turned in early given they are neat and complete.
