Animal Report & Diorama Projects

We had a very exciting day in Room 2. Our Animal Report & Diorama projects were due today, so most of the class brought them in this morning. After peeking at them, we had Nutrition outside. We had our morning activities and then read "Now I Know About Fish." At language arts rotations, students made colorful fish art. We scraped different colors of crayons on wax paper before melting it with an iron and adding a fish frame. They look great! Special thanks to Alexander's mom and Jayden's mom for helping out again!  My groups took the Topic 15 math test and read Sam and Mat book 10.  The other groups had secret centers. During rotations, one of the butterflies emerged from its chysalis!  The class was very excited to see our first caterpillar become a butterfly. After recess, we practiced sight words, recited "Jack Sprat," shared animal reports, and rehearsed our two culmination songs.

After lunch, we spent most of the afternoon sharing more animal reports. They look great!  I'm particularly happy that the students can read their reports independently and can answer questions about their  animal. During the afternoon, we also had a second butterfly emerge from the chrysalis.  We hope that the other two appear tomorrow! We had P.E. with Coach Angel a little earlier than usual to accommodate his schedule. We played "Crash Mat," a game that included batting a ball, running to a mat, and fielding a ball. Coach Angel said it was a first grade game. We were happy to play it!  For Star of the Week, we shared Aaron's favorite book. He read "Just Go to Bed" to the class. It was funny! We ended the day in library. We returned our books and listened to two stories from Mrs. Singh: "Bats in the Library" and "Bats Ballgame." Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.
