More With M and "The Mitten"

We had a great day in Room 203. We began the day with our morning activities and HWT. Since we don't have Road to Reading this week, we read "Winter" and jumped right to Writer's Workshop. Students wrote true stories from Winter Break and then worked with a partner to get feedback. We will finish these stories up tomorrow. After indoor snack and recess, we read "The Mitten" by Jan Brett. We worked on our comprehension by retelling the beginning, middle, and end of the story together. At ELA Workshop, students found "m" pictures and wrote sentences using "m" words. I pulled groups to make a sentence and picture illustrating part of "The Mitten." And everyone visited a secret center.

After lunch, we recited "Little Miss Muffet," practiced our phonics skills, and reviewed our sight words for the week. Then we visited the library where we read a story and checked out a book with Mr. Withers. At Spanish we discussed family with Sra. Colmenero. In P.E., we went through an awesome obstacle course with Mr. Simatic. We were supposed to end the day with Reading Buddies, but they had to cancel. So we packed up, read a story, and played a game before we lined up for home.
