Leaves

We had a busy Friday in Room 203. We began the day by collecting homework and taking care of our morning activities. After HWT and Road to Reading, we read "And Tango Makes Three" about a penguin family at the Central Park Zoo. Then we used the pictures to help our writing and tell about the story. We weren't quite finished when it was time for our specials, so we paused to go to Spanish. Sra Colmenero was out again, so our substitute showed us another movie. At P.E. Mr. Simatic had us run through the Heartland Adventure one more time. When we got back to the room, we finished up our writing about "And Tango Makes Three."

After lunch, we recited "Little Nut Tree," reviewed our sight words, and had science. We took what we know about trees and moved onto leaves. We looked at their shapes and parts (blade, midrib, veins, stem). We also used colored chalk and leaf tracers to make some cool leaf art. We had our Friday afternoon recess next before ending the day with Star of the Week. Mr. Ricker shared three jokes and we reviewed what we learned about him. Then we wrote a friendly letter to our Star of the Week using sentences. We plan to continue this pattern of activities each week with students. Finally, we packed up our Friday Folders, sang "Happy Birthday" to Quinn (his birthday is on Sunday), and lined up for home.

Have a great weekend!
