The Letter K

We had a good Monday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and having Nutrition. Then we took care of our morning activities. Next, we read "My 'K' Book" and brainstormed some "K" words. At language arts rotations, students used crayons, glue, and kidney beans to make the tactile page "Kidney Beans on 'K's on a Kite." My groups practiced "k" handwriting and took a writing assessment. The other groups had secret centers.  After recess, we had math. We worked on taking apart (or decomposing) 6 and 7. It wasn't too hard...we just split the numbers into two parts and counted!

After lunch, we recited our new poem "Georgie Porgie." Then we had art with Ms. Maria and Miss Karla. Students worked on putting together part of a fall and a winter project. They also had free draw with markers. Next, we introduced Charis as our Star of the Week. She shared her cool poster and took questions from the class. At P.E., we used balls and jump ropes on the kindergarten yard. To end the day, we reviewed letters and letter sounds. We also practiced sounding out some short words. Keep practicing at home!  Then we read "Leaves" and talk about leaves. We learned the parts of a leaf (blade, stem, midrib, and vein) and the two kinds of leaves (simple and compound). Finally, we colored and matched leaves to the plant they came from. Then we packed up, passed out homework, and read a story before lining up for home.

Be sure to check over the homework packet this week. There is a "Homework for parents" survey I'd like everyone to fill out and return by Friday. Also, we will be studying leaves this week. If you and your child could pick up a few and bring them into school, it would help us with some in-class activities. Thanks!
