Canoes and Turkeys

We had a pretty good Friday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting homework and having Nutrition. Then we took care of our morning activities and read "My First Thanksgiving." At language arts rotations, students made Native American canoes. We decorated them with symbols, colored them, cut them out, hole punched them, and sewed them together. They look cool! My groups read "We Like Sam!" and wrote a friendly letter to Christopher, our Star of the Week. The other groups had secret centers.  After recess, we had Music with Ms. Yuki's class. We went to Room 21 and sang songs like "I'm a Little Teapot," "Put Your Finger in The Air," and more.

After lunch, we recited "Mary Had a Little Lamb," reviewed our weekly sight words, and worked on sounding out c-v-c (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. We also had  art. We made a brown and red turkey with colorful feathers. As a bonus, we turned the turkey over and used the feathers to make a Native American boy or girl on the back. They look cute! For Star of the Week, CJ had us estimate pennies. We made guesses between 7 and 99. There were 93 pennies. Kaia guessed the exact number!  For P.E., we used bouncy balls and jump ropes on the kindergarten yard. To end the day, Pierra shared her Ethnicity Doll. She did a fantastic job!  Remember that they are due on December 8. Then we packed up, awarded prizes for twenty super star sticks, and handed out certificates for an all-green week. Have a great weekend!

Just as a reminder, Picture Day retakes will be this Monday, November 16. Let me know if your child needs a retake, as only those students will visit the photographer.  Also, note that we have a 12:35 P.M. dismissal time on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday because of Parent-Teacher Conferences. Tuesday will remain a 1:30 day.
