Valentine's Day!
It was Valentine's Day on Tuesday in Room 203. We began normally, by taking care of our morning activities and HWT. We also read "Rosie Rabbit's Radish" and brainstormed more "R" words. After Road to Reading, we had Writer's Workshop. We talked about starting our stories off with an exciting sentence or amazing event. Since we had talked about exclamation points at HWT, we tried to start our story with one. We did great! We will finish our stories on Thursday. After snack and recess, we read "Valentine's Day" and had ELA Workshop. Students worked on "R" phonics and sentences independently, while my groups finished up our gifts and passed out Valentine cards. We also visited our last secret center of the rotation.
After lunch, we quickly reviewed sight words and recited "Jack and Jill" so that we could have Star of the Week. We introduced Charlotte as our Star of the Week. Since she was absent yesterday, she shared both her poster and toys. She had a Sears (or Willis) Tower, several Lego items, a wishing star, and a Helen Keller book. The class liked them all! Then we visited out Tuesday specials. We read a story and checked out books with Mr. Withers in the library. We studied fruit with Sra. Colmenero in Spanish. And we played some fun running games with Mr. Simatic at P.E. When we got back to the room, we ended the day with our Valentine's Day party. We had some treats and looked at all of our Valentine cards. It was fast, but fun! (Special thanks to Charlotte's mom and Gavin's mom for planning and setting up! Plus thank you to Billie's mom for helping out!) Then we packed up our things and lined up for home.
