Free Form Shapes

We had a fun Friday in Room 203. We began the day by collecting homework and taking care of morning activities. We learned a little about Dr. Mae Jemison, the first African American woman in space. We wrote friendly letters to Elise, our Star of the Week. We also read "Tooth Trouble" and made toothbrushes that remind us to brush twice a day. They should be in your child's Friday Folder or backpack. After snack, we went to Spanish. We practiced using fruit and food words and even danced a fruit dance, "El Baile de las Frutas." It was fun!  In P.E., we had gymnastics again with Mr. Simatic. Exercises included backward rolls, forward rolls, mini-balance beam, rings, and rope climbing. In Science, we started a new investigation of wood. We learned that wood comes from trees and comes in different forms. We used magnifying glasses to examine cedar, plywood, and particle board and compared them. Next week, we will see how each wood reacts to water.

After lunch, we reviewed sight words, recited "Simple Simon," and had math. We worked on counting objects and then finding one fewer. For Star of the Week, Elise shared a silly joke and we read our letters to her. After recess, we ended the day with art. We talked about the difference between geometric and free form shapes. We drew free form shapes and then outlined them in oil pastels and filled them in with water color paints. They look nice!  Then we packed up Friday Folders, passed out prizes for twenty super star sticks, and lined up for home. Have a great weekend!
