The Letter K
We had a busy Monday back in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and having Nutrition. Then we took care of our morning activities, including calendar, reciting the alphabet and letter sounds, and saying the Pledge of Allegiance. We read "My 'K Book and brainstormed "K" words. At language arts rotations, students used crayons, glue, and kidney beans to make the tactile page "Kidney Beans on 'K's on a Kite." My groups took the Topic 4 math test, worked on neat "K" handwriting, and learned how to play the game "Boom!" The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we learned our new poem, "Georgie Porgie," did some rhyming, and had math. We worked on counting, reading, and writing 18, 19, and 20.
After lunch, we read "Friends All Around" and wrapped up our Treasures theme on Friends. We came up with examples of different things that friends do, wrote a sentence, and drew a picture. I hope to turn them into a class book this week. Then we introduced our new Star of the Week, Sophia. She shared her beautiful poster and took questions and comments from the class. At P.E. we used foam frisbees to go with our jump ropes. To end the day, we had art. Ms. Maria and Miss Karla had the class do another important part in our Thanksgiving project. Then we reviewed homework, packed up, read Chloe's "Snow White" book and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!
There is an addition to this week's homework. We now will complete a Dolch Sight Word page to increase our sight word vocabulary. The front includes using five new sight words, while the back asks parents to see how much your child can read. This may be difficult for awhile. If it is, focus on words and letters your child CAN identify. Also, don't forget that our Halloween party is Friday!
