Giant Jack-o-Lanterns
We had a fast day before Halloween in Room 2. We began Thursday with Nutrition and our morning activities. We read two stories: "Inside a House that is Haunted" and "K is for Kangaroo." At language arts rotations, students completed a "K"phonics page. My groups read "We Like Sam!" and wrote a letter to Sophia, our Star of the Week. The other groups had their first secret centers of this rotation. They include: Leaf art at the art center, Planet Bravo and Starfall games at the computer center, putting numbers in order at the math center, playing with shapes, Legos, magni-tiles, and ocean animals at the play center, and writing leaf words or sentences at the writing center. After recess, we recited "Georgie Porgie," worked on sounding out words and oral blending, and had math. We reviewed Topic 5 and introduced Topic 6: Numbers to 100.
After lunch, we read "Five Spooky Ghosts Playing Tricks at School" and practiced our "Five Little Pumpkins" song. I think we're ready for tomorrow! Then we put together some giant jack-o-lanterns. We took the huge pumpkins we painted faces on at the last art center, cut them out, stuffed them, and added a stem. They look cool! We got to bring them home today since we'll probably have more things to take home tomorrow. For Star of the Week, Sophia shared some nice family photos. At P.E., we used frisbees and jump ropes. We also got some extra recess on the kindergarten yard with Mr.A and Miss Esther. Then we packed up our things and grabbed those giant jack-o-lanterns for home.
Don't forget to finish up and check over homework packets for tomorrow. Also, bring costumes for the Halloween party in your child's backpack or another bag. They're not to wear them to school. The party begins at 1:00. We hope to see you there!
