More With I and the Earth

We had another busy day in Room 2.  We began with Nutrition and our morning activities. We read "The Little Pink Pig" and tried to identify more "Short I" words. At language arts rotations, students tried to match a picture to the correct "short i" word. All of the words had the "short i" in them, but none started with "i." It was a bit of a challenge, and something we will continue to work on. My groups wrote about apples in our kindergarten journals, as they didn't get a chance last week. The other groups had their last secret center of this rotation. After recess, we had math. We worked on ordering number to ten. We ordered in the traditional way (0-10), but also in smaller groups that didn't start with 1. It went pretty well.

After lunch, we recited our poem of the week "Little Jack Horner" and had science. We talked about what we know about the outside of the Earth before learning about the inside layers of the Earth. We learned that the three layers are the crust, mantle, and core. We will work on this for the next two lessons. For Star of the Week, Ziggy brought in three books, but we only had time to share "Fancy Nancy: Bonjour Butterfly." Then we took questions and comments from the class. We had P.E. with Coach Angel on the big yard. We learned how to hold a hockey stick and control a ball with it. We also shot on a goal. At the library, Mrs. Singh read us "Bailey" and "Who Goes Out on Halloween?" Then we packed up our things and passed out an order form for the art project we did with Mrs. Cheney a couple weeks back. If you'd like to order, you can order online or return by next Tuesday, October 21st.
