The Letter S

We had a busy Monday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and having Nutrition. Then we took care of morning activities. We also read "My 'S' Book" and brainstormed some "S" words. At language arts rotations, students practiced neat "S" handwriting and used crayons, glue, and string to make the tactile page "String on 'S's on a Star." My groups read Sam and Mat book #2 and finished our language arts testing. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had math. We practiced subtracting from ten using counters and our fingers.

After lunch, we learned our new sight words of the week, recited "Simple Simon," and read some books about bears. Then we talked about some different kinds of bears and made pictures using oil pastels. (Our regular art lesson was postponed because Ms. Maria wasn't feeling well. We will make it up next week! ) Next, we introduced Jack as our Star of the Week. He shared his awesome ninja poster and took questions from the class. We played on the kindergarten yard for P.E. To end the day, we read "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" and matched objects to Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear. Then we packed up, passed out homework, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!

Be sure to look over homework packets for the week. Sentences have ben added to Tuesday's phonics work. Also, a booklet and instructions went home for At-Home project #3: The 100 Day Book. See me if you need to see a sample or have any questions. 100 Day Books are due by Tuesday, February 9th.
