More with Short A

We had a short Tuesday in Room 2. We began our first 1:30 dismissal day with Nutrition and morning activities. Then we read "The Adventures of Abby Alligator" and brainstormed some more "A" words. At language arts rotations, students completed a phonics page where they looked for "short a" words. My groups worked on neat "A" handwriting and words. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had math. We worked on writing and counting 4 and 5. We also used unifix cubes to create towers that were 4 or 5 cubes tall (and taller).

After lunch, we recited "Ring Around the Rosies" and had science. We talked about what science is and some of the things we will do this year. We also read a riddle book where we used clues to answer questions. Finally, we had a color experiment. We used red, yellow, and blue color paddles to "mix" colors with friends. We learned how to make orange, green, and purple from these primary colors. We ended the day by having free draw and play since we didn't have time to go out to the big yard. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and sang "Wake Up Toes" before going home.
