Lines and a Popcorn Party!

We had a great Friday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting homework and having Nutrition outside. After we came in, we took care of our morning activities and read "Bear Sees Colors." At language arts rotations, students continued our color and shape themes by creating a "bouncing snake." They colored shapes following a color key and then cut the spiral-shaped snake so as to make it "bounce." My groups wrote about things we like in our kindergarten journals. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had math. We worked on the term "greater than." We used students and counters to compare objects. Then we found the one with the greater amount.

After lunch, we had art. We continued our theme of lines. We reviewed some of the lines we drew yesterday before looking at thick and thin lines. For our project, we used tempera paint to make a pattern of lines using the primary colors of red, blue, and yellow. They look nice! After cleanup, we had a short recess outside on the big yard. When we came in from the heat, we recited "Ring Around  the Rosies" and had a popcorn party to celebrate a good week. Students munched on popcorn and watched "Harold and the Purple Crayon." Then we packed up, sang "Wake Up Toes," and passed out green certificates for the week. Students earn one for being green everyday from Monday through Friday. Then we lined up for home.  Have a cool weekend!
