Harold and the Purple Crayon

We had a full Thursday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. Then we read "That Cat Max," focusing on the "short a" sound. At language arts rotations, students worked on matching "short a" words and pictures. It was a little tough, but we did a nice job! My groups read "Harold and the Purple Crayon," made a picture of our favorite part, and dictated what happened. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we had math. We did a quick review of the chapter so far and then learned about equal numbers. We matched objects one to one to finish the lesson.

After lunch, we introduced our SRA Art Connections big book. We learned what art is and about some of the topics we will have this year. Then we started our first unit on Lines. We used big butcher paper on the carpet to draw different kinds of lines, including straight lines, slanted lines, broken lines, wavy lines, zig-zag lines, squiggly lines, spirals, and more. Then students got to draw their own picture using some of these lines. We had a shorter snack and recess on the big yard since it was quite hot out today. When we came back, we played picture word bingo and math games. Then we reviewed our homework and packed up our things for home!

Don't forget to finish up and check over homework tonight!
