Flowers

We had a flowery day in Room 203.  We started our day with Reader's Workshop before going to the Computer Lab to play LexiaCore5 games. When we returned, we worked on writing "How-To" stories in Writer's Workshop. We tried to write what things we need to do to succeed in kindergarten. After snack and recess, we reviewed our sight words, recited "Wee Willie Winkie," and read "Flowers" before starting a flower project.

After lunch, we read "Roots" and finished up our flower projects. We glued on brown paper for soil onto a large piece of paper. Then we cut out our sponge painted petals, stem, and leaves. We glued them on carefully and added a trumpet or seed pod in the middle. Next we added brown yarn for roots and a seed to show where they grew from. They look great! Tomorrow we will label the plant parts and maybe add some things in the background!  We had a quick math time where we wrote some subtraction sentences to match a story. For Star of the Week, Paul shared some nice family photographs. We ended the day in Art. Ms. Sundquist gave the class a free choice day with clay to create something cool. Then we reviewed homework and packed up for home.

Be sure to finish and check over homework for Friday!  Students are also encouraged to wear green for our Earth Day assembly tomorrow.
