The Letter K
We had a fast Monday back in Room 203. We spent our morning sharing about our weekend, singing "Happy Birthday" to Wai Zin, and learning about the letter "K." We read "My 'K' Book," brainstormed some "K" words, and used crayons, glue, and kidney beans to make the tactile page "Kidney Beans on 'K's on a Kite." We introduced a new unit on Super Powers during Reader's Workshop and practiced pointing to words we know. We also read "So Much!" at read aloud. After Road to Reading, we had snack and recess. When we came in, we started writing in our new kindergarten journals. We will use these weekly to help our sentence structure and writing form.
After lunch, we recited our new poem ("Georgie Porgie"), learned our new sight words (the, with, funny, is, fast), read "Brown Bear Brown Bear, What Do You See?" for shared reading, and sang "A Turkey Named Burt." We also had math. We reviewed our flat shapes and then placed them around a duck using positional words like above, below, next to, beside, behind, and in front of. This time zoomed by! We had a little more workshop time before introducing Avery as our Star of the Week. He shared his colorful poster and took questions from the class. We ended the day with Spanish and P.E. Then we packed up, reviewed our new homework and celebrated Wai Zin's birthday with her parents. They were kind enough to bring everyone a gift!
Be sure to look over homework for Friday. Picture Day photos were included in the green folder today, too. Let's have a great week!
