Looking for Leaves

We had a busy Thursday in Room 203. We spent our morning working on "Short I" phonics. We read "The Little Pink Pig" and tried to find words that have the "short i" sound in them. For Reader's Workshop, we used post-it notes to mark words that we know in our storybooks. We also went to the Computer Lab to play LexiaCore5 games. After snack and recess, we had Writer's Workshop. We went through our writing to find our best work. Then we tried reading and editing our story by adding words, pictures, speech bubbles, or feelings that would improve our work. We will share our stories tomorrow.

After lunch, we were especially busy. We recited "Little Jack Horner," reviewed our sight words, and read "Mrs. McNosh and the Great Big Squash." We started an art project on lines we can touch by making lines with glue. They should dry by tomorrow, so we can finish the project. For Science, we reviewed the parts of a tree (roots, trunk, branches, leaves) before going on a leaf hunt. We went on the playground looking for leaves. Each group collected as many as they could so we can use them next week. If you find any good ones, you may bring them to school to add to our collections!  We tried to start our new Math Module on shapes next, but we were a bit rushed. We were able to sort some shapes, but will do more tomorrow.  We ended the day in Art. Ms. Sundquist had the class draw with tracers. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and passed out awards for an all-green month in October.

Be sure to finish and check over homework packets for tomorrow. Also, I emailed every family a permission slip for our next field trip next Friday. Try to sign and return them ASAP. Thanks!
