The Letter J

We had a fast Monday back in Room 203. We spent our morning learning about the letter "J." We read "My 'J' Book," brainstormed "J" words, and used crayons, glue, and plastic jewels to make the tactile page "Jewels on 'J's on a Jellybean." We also read "Families" and practiced using post-it notes during Reader's Workshop. We started a new rotation of Road to Reading before going out for snack and recess. When we came in, we had Writer's Workshop. Half of the class shared their "best writing" with the class. We will have the other half of the class share tomorrow.

After lunch, we recited our new poem ("Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling"), reviewed our new sight words (laugh, run, jump, and, had), and read "Play Ball!" together. In math, we learned about geometric shapes. We reviewed the shaped we know and then used geoboards to create squares, rectangles, triangles, and more. We tried count the sides and corners, too. Next, we introduced Amira as our "Star of the Week." She shared her awesome poster and took questions and comments from the class. We ended the day in Spanish and P.E. Sra Colmenero helped us learn about feelings in Spanish, while Mr. Simatic had the class play hockey in P.E. Then we packed up green folders, learned about our homework and special project before lining up for home.

Be sure to look over homework packets, especially that "Culture Doll" project. Please don't lose the cut out doll shape. As always, see me if you have any questions or concerns.
