Leaf Rubbings

We had a jam-packed Thursday in Room 203. We started our morning with Amira, our Star of the Week. She shared some cool family photographs with the class. Then we worked more with the letter "J" by identifying "J" words and pictures. For Reader's Workshop, we visited our new bookshelves and "shopped" for books to read during private and partner reading time. There is no Road to Reading on Thursday, so we went to the Computer Lab to play LexiaCore5 games. Many students have started to level up!  Remember that you can play at home by typing in your username and password. After snack and recess, we read and discussed "Families" and wrote family words.

After lunch, we recited "Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling," read "Play Ball," and sang "Apples and Bananas." We also had a math lesson on circle and hexagons. We looked at their differences, identified each, and tried to draw them both. Finally, we had science. We reviewed the parts of a tree and read a book on leaves before using magnifying glasses to examine and observe leaves. We saw the stem, midrib, vein, and blade on each leaf before making leaf rubbings. We put a leaf under a piece of paper and rubbed it with a crayon to reveal the leaf and its parts. We ended the day in Art with Ms. Sundquist. Then we packed up for home.

Remember that we have our walking field trip tomorrow. Dress for the chilly weather! Also, be sure to finish and check over homework!
