Opera for the Young

We did a lot today in Room 203. We spent our morning learning about Amira for "Star of the Week." We reviewed what we know about her before she shared some cool toys with the class. Amira brought in a headband, a watch, two dragons, a rainbow fairy, a rainbow unicorn, and a colorful sequined bag. The class liked them all!  We also worked with the letter "J." We read "Jaguar's Jungleberry Jamboree," brainstormed more "J" words, and practiced writing "J"s. We met up with our fifth grade reading buddies to look at books, too. After Reader's Workshop and Road to Reading, we had snack and recess. When we came in, we had Writer's Workshop. We shared our last narrative stories. We also had time to look at "Families" for read aloud.

After lunch, we recited "Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling," reviewed our sight words, sang "Apples and Bananas," and had math. We reviewed flat shapes before using our geoboards to make different kinds of triangles. Then we tried to find and identify triangles. Next, we visited the auditorium to see a performance. The Opera for the Young group performed "Rusalka" by Dvorak. The class seemed to enjoy it very much. It ran over into our Music time, so we only had Spanish after to end our day. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home!
