The Letter E

We had a nice Tuesday back in Room 203. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and library books (Thank you to those of you who remembered!). We also took care of our morning activities, which include sorting lunches, the Pledge, calendar, the alphabet, and warm-up exercises. Instead of HWT, we finished our Christopher Columbus mini-books. For Road to Reading, we split into new groups for the next three weeks. Each group will have a different skill. My group, for example, will focus on word sounds. In Writer's Workshop, we talked about not quitting when writing. Writers always keep trying. Then we applied that to our own stories by rereading them and trying to add more pictures, letters, and words. After snack and recess, we read "My 'E' Book, brainstormed "short e" words, and had ELA Workshop. Students worked on the tactile page "Easter Grass on 'E's on an Elephant" (with help from Charlotte's mom) while I pulled groups to work on good "E" handwriting and letter sound identification.

After lunch, we recited our new poem "Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater" and shared Ascencion's "All About Me" book. Don't forget that they're due tomorrow! We read a story and checked out books with Mr. Withers in the library, we learned about fall in Spanish with Sra. Colmenero, and we played a fun game with Mr. Simatic at P.E. To end the day, we read a book on Christopher Columbus and used markers to help make a color by number picture. We also passed out homework, packed up, shared Miles' "All About Me" book, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!

Be sure to look over homework packets for the week. "All About Me" books are due tomorrow!  I've included a "Homework for Parents" survey to fill out to help inform our conferences. Please return it by Friday. Finally, the Scholastic book order for October goes home today. Return orders by Friday with payment if you're interested.
