Quick as a Cricket

We had a great Wednesday in Room 203. We began the day with our normal morning activities. Instead of HWT, we finished up our "Firefighter" mini-books in anticipation of our field trip tomorrow. After Road to Reading, we had Writer's Workshop. We focused on getting our writing topics in mind before starting. We thought about a place we like in the school and began a new story about it. We also made sure to include letters or words with our pictures and labels. Many students were very proud of the work they had done when we shared at the end of the lesson. After snack and recess, we read "Quick as a Cricket," "D is for Duck," had ELA Workshop. Students focused on finding "D" words and coloring "D" pictures neatly today. Some even wrote extra "D" words on the back of their papers! I pulled groups to review "Quick as a Cricket" and make our own similies. We thought of a word to describe ourselves and then an animal that also has that trait, i.e. "I'm as fast as a cheetah." Our mini-books turned out great!

After lunch, we recited "Hey, Diddle, Diddle" and shared Addison's "All About Me" book. Don't forget that projects are due next Wednesday, October 12th. We also had math. We tried to understand how to build, write, identify, and decompose numbers to three. To end the day, we had Second Step with Mrs. Z. We learned about being assertive. We practiced sitting and standing in an assertive way, giving good eye contact, and practiced asking questions when we need help. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, counted super star sticks, and lined up for home.

Don't forget that our field trip is tomorrow!
