A Trip to the Fire Station

We had a great Thursday in Room 203. We began the day sorting lunches and with our morning activities. After HWT, we went to the Computer Lab to  work on Lexia Core 5 learning games. Next, we had snack, a bathroom break, and read "A Day With Firefighters." We did this because it was time for our field trip! We went over our rules and found a walking partner to go to the Oak Park fire station. It was a little rainy this morning, but we wore our coats and umbrellas as we safely made our way to Station One. Firefighter Scott showed us their vehicles (hook & ladder, ambulance), as well as some of the equipment they use as firefighters. He put on his gear to show the class not to be scared if they see a firefighter during a fire. And, of course, they had to demonstrate how to use the fire pole!  We even got junior firefighter helmets as a gift before we left. It was a great visit! They also let us know that there is an open house at the fire station this Saturday from 1:00-4:00 P.M. if you'd like to see more.  We had a quick walk back in the drizzle before returning to Beye. We decorated the cover of our fire safety booklets before going to lunch. I'd like to thank Ascencion's mom and Marin's dad for chaperoning our walking field trip. The class and I appreciate all of your help!

After lunch, we recited "Hey, Diddle, Diddle" and had some phonics practice. In Music, Mrs. Hanson introduced the class to opera. It was still wet out, so we had some indoor free time before going to Spanish. Sra. Colmenero taught the class more about birthdays. They even made a cool birthday hat!  To end the day, we read Fizz the Fire Engine and made thank you cards for the firefighters. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, and lined up for home.

Be sure to finish and check over homework packets for tomorrow!
