The Letter X

We had a busy Monday back in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders and having Nutrition outside. Then we took care of our morning business by updating our calendar, singing the alphabet song, reviewing the vowels,  reciting our phonetic alphabet, and saying the Pledge of Allegiance.  We read "My 'X.Y. Z' Book" and brainstormed words with "X." This week we will accept any words that include the letter "x" since there are so few that begin with "X." At language arts rotations, students worked on neat "X" handwriting and by using crayons and watercolors to make the tactile page "X is for X-Ray." My groups read Sam and Mat book 4 and wrote about we our neighborhood.  The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we learned our new poem "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep" and had math. We looked for a pattern on the hundred chart, noting how numbers increase by ten in each row. Then we worked to write number sentences that copy that pattern, such as 10+6=16.

After lunch, we reviewed our sight words for the week, edited two sentences, and sang "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes." We also read "Your Body" and talked about the parts of our body. We will discuss bones later in the week, but today we learned about muscles. We learned that they help us move, they pull but don't push, and that exercise makes them stronger. We connected two pages together to make a person with muscles, answered some questions, and colored in the muscles. It was a little tricky, but we did pretty well! For Star of the Week, we introduced Dylan. He shared his cool poster and took questions and comments from the class. After we had P.E. on the big yard, we ended the day talking about neighborhood. We started a picture showing places in our neighborhood that we will probably finish tomorrow.  Then we packed up, passed out homework, played some "Mr Ricker Says," and lined up for home.  Let's have a great week!

Be sure to look over homework for the week. There is a parent survey included (Homework for Parents Part 2), as well as book orders for February and March. If you haven't signed up for a P/T conference, please do so this week.  Thanks!
