The Letter Z and Weather
We had a mostly productive and occasionally silly Monday in Room 2. We started off by collecting Friday Folders and taking care of our morning business. Then we read "My X, Y, and Z Book" and came up with some "Z" words. At language arts rotations, students practiced "Z" handwriting and did the tactile page "Zeroes on Zs on a Zero" using Froot Loops cereal. My groups read Sam and Mat book #8 and made a St. Patrick's Day cartoon. They were very fun to read! The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we learned our new poem "This Little Piggie" and had math. In math, we worked on comparing height by finding objects taller, shorter, or as tall as others. We went around the room to find something taller and something shorter than ourselves, too. Lily's mom had marked everyone's height earlier, so the class was excited to see how they "measured" up.
After lunch, we introduced Treasures Theme 7: Weather. We read a short book called "What is Weather?" and then another on "What Makes a Rainbow?" Then we colored in a rainbow and glued some fluffy cotton clouds to go with it. Finally, we did the first part of another project by painting a large white cloud. For Star of the Week, Mia shared her beautiful poster and took questions from the class. Around this time, the class got a real case of the giggles. Seemingly everything was funny for about ten minutes before we were to go out for P.E. That was interrupted by a schoolwide practice "lock-down" drill. We stayed calm and looked at books for a few minutes until it was over. Then we went out for P.E. on the kindergarten yard. When we came in we packed up, passed out homework folders, and lined up for home!
Don't forget that this is the first of two Parent/Teacher Conference Weeks. See me, look at the reminder slip included in your child's report card, or refer to our class door for your time. Also, if you haven't turned in permission slips for our field trip, be sure to do so by Friday. Thanks!
