Planting Seeds

We had a very windy Wednesday in Room 2. We started by taking care of our morning business and reading a book about hurricanes. For language arts rotations, students worked on a "sh" phonics page and wrote sentences with "sh" words. They also planted some seeds. Abbie's mom helped students label a cup, fill it with potting soil, and plant two lima beans. Then they covered it with more soil. Later we sprinkled on some water and put them outside in the sunlight. We'll keep our eyes on them over the next days and weeks to see how they progress! My groups worked on neatly writing about what they've learned this year in kindergarten. The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we recited "Come to the Window" and had math. We worked with a partner to use logical reasoning to figure out what groups of shapes had in common. Then we found another shape that belonged in that group.

After lunch, we read a book about lightning, practiced our sight words, and did some rhyming. During language arts mixing, my group read "A Rainy Day" and discussed different types of weather. Then each student drew and colored a picture illustrating their favorite kind of weather. Tomorrow, we will add writing and make the picture look like a window frame. For Star of the Week, Quinn shared his favorite book: "Green Eggs and Ham." Coach Angel was unable to have P.E. with us today because of upper grade activities on the big yard, so we went out to the kindergarten yard instead. It was a bit windy, but fun! We ended the day in the library. Mr. K read us "The Club" from "Grasshopper on the Road." When we got back to class, we packed up our things and headed for home!
