Comparing Weight and Volcanoes!
We had a lot of fun doing some neat projects this Thursday in Room 2. We started the day with our morning business and by reading Mia's "Frozen" book. For language arts rotations, we wrote letters to Mia, our Star of the Week. My groups read "We Can!" and wrote about our favorite game in our kindergarten journals. The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we recited "This Little Piggie" and had math. We worked on comparing weight. We found objects and weighed them using a balance to see which weighed more and which weighed less. Then students could experiment with other objects, and even try to make them balance!
After lunch, we practiced our rhyming and sang a song together. Then we had language mixing with Mr. Duffy's class. We read a chapter in my "Weather!" book and then reviewed types of weather. We labeled our projects from yesterday and tried a weather word crossword puzzle. For Star of the Week, Mia shared some very nice pictures. Then we had P.E. on the kindergarten yard. To end the day, we had science. We read a book called "Eruption: The Science of Volcanoes" and discussed what we know about a volcano. Then we used clay to mold a volcano shape. We made a crater at the top, used orange clay to add "lava" and cotton balls for the erupting ash. They look great! And they were fun to make. Hopefully, they all made it home in one piece. Then we packed up and headed for home.
Don't forget to finish and check over homework packets for tomorrow!
