Theater Performance and Earthquake Drill
We had a busy and memorable day in Room 2 today! After coming in the room, we did quick calendar, alphabet, pledge, and morning exercises. Then we made our way over to the auditorium for our theater performance with Ms. Nichols. We were very pleased to see so many parents there! The class did a great job recreating three nursery rhymes for the audience. Afterwards, we made our way back to room 2. We read "Too Many Lollipops," my book choice for Star of the Week. We also introduced our new centers, which include counting pumpkin seeds at the math center, painting a BIG pumpkin at the art center, typing games at the computer center, blocks and puzzles at the play center, and a story at our new listening center. Students that didn't go to a center wrote letters to the Star of the Week, and everyone did a "Short I" word cut and paste page. We didn't have enough time to finish two rotations before snack, so we finished them after recess.
After lunch, we had Star of the Week. I, Mr. Ricker, shared pictures of me and my family. The class liked seeing what I looked like when I was younger. So did I! For art, we discussed geometric shapes. After naming fifteen, students were asked to draw, cut and paste different shapes out of colored construction paper onto a black background. They came out well! At 1:15, the school (and entire district) had our "Shake 2013" earthquake drill. We practiced what to do two or three times prior to the drill, so the class knew what to do. When the time came, they did a great job. We then walked out to the big yard for the remainder of the drill. We had paper, crayons, books, and math games to entertain us for awhile. Fortunately, the time went by fast and we had time to sneak in some recess before the end of the day. Then we packed up, practiced our "Five Little Pumpkins" song, and went home.
Don't forget to finish and bring in homework packets for tomorrow! Also, bring in any book orders, if you're interested.
