Sewing Pumpkins

Our Wednesday began like most, with calendar and our morning business. We read "It's Pumpkin Time!" together to review the steps to go from seed to pumpkin. When we broke into groups, students got to sew a pumpkin with orange yarn.  Then they made a face for the pumpkin, turning it into a jack-o-lantern! My groups wrote about our family in our journals, sounding out certain words. Other groups had their last secret center. They change tomorrow. After snack and recess, we had math. We continued our topic of ordering numbers, this time by using a number line. Students found missing numbers and wrote them down with the help of the number line.

After lunch, we reviewed our poem "Little Jack Horner," and did some rhyming. We also discussed our new theme of transportation. As our extra afternoon project, we did a listening center activity together. This will be a new secret center tomorrow, so I thought we should try one ahead of time to learn what to do. It essentially is like the book report we do as part of our homework packet, except that students listen to the story via a tape or CD and turn the pages of the book themselves. We listened to "Dog's Day" by Jane Cabrera, wrote the title, author, and if we liked the book. Then we wrote a sentence about what happened in the story before drawing a picture.

At 1:30, we went to Coach Angel for P.E.  and played "Battle Cones." Basically, the class tried to knock cones down with a ball. We went to the library after that. Mr. K read us "Giggle, Giggle, Quack." We ran out of time for Star of the Week, so I will share my favorite book tomorrow. Oh, and I forgot to send a note home about the earthquake drill tomorrow. It will be from 1:15-2:15 tomorrow afternoon. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns...

Don't forget that we have a short theater performance at 8:15 AM in the auditorium tomorrow!
