Art and Star of the Week

Another busy day in Room 2 today. We began by collecting homework packets and taking care of our morning business. I read two books, "Leaves" and Fresh Fall Leaves" before we started language arts centers. Students worked on a mixed phonics page that focused on initial consonant sounds independently. My groups worked on letters to Abbie, our Star of the Week. Other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we reviewed the poem "Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling" and practiced letters and and sound recognition. In math, we worked with a partner on a problem solving page that had students use logical reasoning to find missing numbers.

After lunch, we had Art with Ms. Maria and Miss Karla. Students learned about Andy Warhol. Then they designed two sugar skulls in the style of Warhol. One they decorated with stamps and the other with markers. They came out well!  Ms. Maria will attach the stamped skull to a bag that students can use for Halloween. We'll get them next week in time for trick or treating. We had our last day with Abbie as our Star of the Week after that.  Abbie had us estimate crayons. Ms. Maria made the closest estimate (there were 36), with Mia being next closest. Then we read the letters we wrote to Abbie. She really did a great job this week!  At P.E. we had a race dribbling the bouncy balls. To end the day, we read a book called "Bus Stops," talked about buses, and colored a picture of a school bus. Then we packed up ourr Friday Folders, passed out green certificates, and headed out the door.

Have a great weekend! Don't forget that our Halloween party is next Thursday from 1:00-2:30!
