Water

We had a busy Wednesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and morning business. We read "Happy Birthday Martin Luther King" and talked about some of his accomplishments. At language arts rotations, students matched pictures to sentences explaining important parts of Dr. King's life. My groups took the Treasure Unit 4 assessment. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we recited "Jack and Jill," did some rhyming and had math. We did some subtraction practice using cubes or our fingers to solve.

After lunch, we sang "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and had science. We started a unit on water by examining water using eye droppers, wax paper, and magnifying glasses. Students got to see how water droplets start out as spheres as they drop and are flatter on a surface because of their weight and gravity pushing them down. We also saw how the molecules stick together when droplets touch. It was cool!
For Star of the Week, Katharine shared "The Day the Crayons Quit," her favorite book. The class thought it was very funny!  We had a short recess with frisbees and hula hoops on the kindergarten yard before going to P.E. Coach Angel had the class learn the basics of kickball. Everyone got a chance to kick, field, and run the bases. To end the day, we had library with Mrs. Singh. Then we packed up, reviewed homework, listened to Dashiell read a story to the class, and lined up for home.
