Sink or Float

We had another busy Thursday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and morning activities. Then we read "Bears" and "T is for Turtle." At language arts rotations, students worked on "T" phonics and sentences. My groups read "Sit Tip!" and wrote a friendly letter to Jayden, our Star of the Week. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we recited "Polly, Put the Kettle On" and had math. We worked on making 10 in different ways using two sided counters.

After lunch, we read "Why Does it Float?" to start science. We discussed how and why things float, focusing on the words buoyancy and displacement. Then students conducted a "Sink or Float?" experiment with a partner using the tubs of water at each table. Our results told us that a cork, aluminum foil, wax paper, and a pencil will float in water, while a penny, a paper clip, a nail, a spoon, and an eraser will sink. It was a little messy, but fun!  For Star of the Week, Jayden showed some nice pictures to the class. At P.E., I checked on student's hula hoop proficiency. To end the day, we shared Ashley's, Chloe's, Dylan's, and Katharine's 100 Day books. We also made 100 glasses in preparation of 100 Day on Monday. Then we packed up and lined up for home!

Don't forget to finish homework and check it for neatness and completion. Also, 100 Day books are due tomorrow, if you haven't brought them in already.
