Color Wheels

We had a full day of learning today in Room 2. As usual, we began the day with Nutrition and morning activities. Then Kaia shared the toys she left at home for Star of the Week. Next, we read "S is for Snail." At language arts rotations, students worked on more "S" phonics and sentences using "S" words. My groups read "I See the Truck Go" and wrote a friendly letter to Kaia, our Star of the Week. The other groups had secret centers. After recess, we recited "Simple Simon" and had math. We worked on making 6 and 7. We used counters to come up with different combinations for 6 and 7.

After lunch, we shared Leland's 100 Day book and finished up our math from the morning. Then we had art. We're beginning a new unit on color. To introduce it, I had the class make color wheels. We used primary colored paints to fill in "slices" of a paper plate. Then we mixed those primary colors to make the secondary colors that fit in between. It was a little messy, but fun. And they look pretty cool, too! For Star of the Week, Kaia shared some neat photographs, including one where she fed a kangaroo. For P.E., I had two groups jump rope to see how proficient they've become. We'll check on the other two tomorrow. To end the day, we packed up, reviewed homework, and played "Mr. Ricker Says" before we lined up for home.

Don't forget to finish up and check over homework packets for neatness. Book orders are also due by tomorrow. You may send in field trip slips tomorrow if you'd like, but they are not due until February 6th.
