The Tiny Seed

We had a busy Tuesday in Room 2. We began the day with Nutrition and our morning activities. We read "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle. At language arts rotations, students took the sponge painted stem, leaves, and petals  we made and turned it into a giant sunflower like the one in "The Tiny Seed." My groups wrote what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story and made a mini-book to go with our art. The other groups had their first secret center of this rotation. They include: Making a butterfly wristband with twist crayons at the art center, using the LexiaCore5 reading software at  the computer center, listening to "Over in the Garden" by Jennifer Ward at the listening center, subtraction practice at the math center, and using cubes, blocks, and animals at the play center. After recess, we went to the Tech Lab. Ms. Castro had the class play a sight word recognition game at PlanetBravo.com/thirdstreet and make an alphabet acrostic using Microsoft Word. When we got back to Room 2, we finished labeling and decorating our "Tiny Seed" art.

After lunch, we had math. We worked on sorting by count by finding numbers of objects that matched. For Star of the Week, Madison shared some cool toys. She had what we thought was a singing penguin (I later looked up and found out it was a "Hibou" smart owl), some fancy beads, a "macaroon" full of ShopKins, a little treasure chest with a ring, a Lego set of a hair salon, and a Lego set of an ice cream shop. The class liked them all a lot! To end the day, we had "Writing Buddies" with our friends from Room 19. We wrote a story about things that we and our reading buddies both like. It was fun to see the class find common bonds!  Then we packed up and lined up for home

Anyone else turning in an optional Science Fair project? They're due by Thursday. Otherwise, have another enjoyable homework-free day!
