The Letter Y

We had a rainy and windy Monday in Room 2. We began the day by collecting Friday Folders, having Nutrition, and by taking care of our morning activities. We read "My 'X, Y, Z' Book," focusing on the "Y" portion before brainstorming "Y" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on neat "y" handwriting and sentences, as well as using crayons, glue, and yarn to make the tactile page "Yarn on 'Y's on a Yo-Yo." My groups read Sam and Mat book #4 and made a mini-book called "What Do Plants Need?" The other groups had secret centers. After some indoor recess because of the rain, we had math. We worked on sorting objects that are alike and different. We used attribute blocks to help us.

After lunch, we learned our new sight words of the week and recited the poem "Yankee Doodle." We also read "Bright, Yellow Flower" and named the parts of a plant. Students worked on labeling the parts of a plant while I worked on an Open House project. For Star of the Week, we introduced Lois. She shared her cool poster and took questions from the class. Next, we had the popcorn party we earned last week!  We munched on cup of popcorn while watching "The Magic School Bus Gets Planted." To end the day, we had recess out on the big yard. Then we passed out homework, packed up, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!

Be sure to check over homework packets for the week. Thursday is Spring Picture Day. All students will be photographed, so dress nicely!  Bring order forms if you're interested. Friday is the Walk-A-Thon. Please try to register and donate if you can. Even if it's only a dollar it will help get us to 100% participation and our class goal. I will eliminate the homework packet next week if we meet out goals!
