Tacky the Penguin

Today was a quick day in Room 2. We began our Tuesday with Nutrition and an abbreviated version of our morning activities. Then we read "When Tillie Turtle Came To Tea" and came up with more "T" words. At language arts rotations, students worked on "T" phonics and sentences. My groups finished up our writing assessments. The other groups had our first secret centers of this rotation. They include: Drawing animal pictures with markers at the Art Center, playing games at Starfall and Planet Bravo at the Computer Center, listening to "Big Bear, Little Bear" by Jane Chapman at the listening center, bear addition at the Math Center, and using animal figures, puzzles, and magni-tiles at the Play Center.  After recess, we went to the Tech Lab. Mr. Scott was back and had us do some more illustrating at Wixie.com.  When we got back to the room, we recited "Polly, Put the Kettle On," worked on initial sounds, sounding out words, and reading sight words.

Yesterday we were introduced to Tacky the Penguin. Today after lunch, we read a new story, "Tacky and the Winter Olympics," and finished putting together our writing, penguins, and watercolor tacky shirts. Then we shared Jayden's, Sophia's, Baeman's, Jacob's and A.J.'s 100 Day projects. Mr. Bassett is at AstroCamp this week with his fifth graders, so we found "buddies" in our class to read with in our class during our usual Reading Buddy time. We ended the day with Star of the Week. Jayden shared some toys today, including a minion, a tea kettle that made sound, and an Angry Bird. The class liked them a lot! Then we packed up and lined up for home.
