Lines
We had a busy Thursday in Room 2. We began our day with calendar and morning business. Then we read "What is Round?"and reviewed shapes. For language art rotations, students identified and matched like shapes. My groups read "I Can" and "Harold and the Purple Crayon" together before drawing our favorite part of the story. I also had students dictate what they drew for a language sample. The other groups had secret centers. After snack and recess, we recited "Ring Around the Rosies" and had math. We counted groups of 4 and 5 objects with a partner.
After lunch, we read "I Love School" and sang "Wake Up Toes." Then I introduced our new Art big book. We talked about what art is and what we will be doing this year. Then we started our first unit: Lines. We used large butcher paper and practiced making different kinds of lines: straight, curved, slanted, wavy, squiggly, and more. For P.E. we played "Red Light, Green Light" and had some free play on the big yard. When we returned, we talked more about lines. Students then drew different kinds of vertical lines in a pattern. Then we cleaned up, reviewed homework, and went home!
Don't forget to finish and check over homework packets for tomorrow!
