Cows
It was a busy, but productive Friday in Room 2. We began by collecting homework folders and taking care of morning business. Then we read "The Milk Makers" by Gail Gibbons. It told the story of how milk gets produced. At language arts rotations, we found foods that come from a cow's milk and wrote sentences about cows. My group took and end of the year Treasures reading assessment. The other groups had their last secret center. After snack and recess, we shared our last two animal report and diorama projects. Emerson (Chimpanzee) and Callum (Saber-Toothed Cat) both did a nice job. Our class as a whole did a really great job writing, reading, and sharing their reports. I enjoyed learning new facts about animals, seeing some beautiful dioramas, and watching confident children read and present in front of a group. I am very proud of ALL our students!
After lunch, we practiced our three songs for our culmination ceremony next Friday. Then we practiced telling time. First, we reviewed the hour and minute hands. Then we tried telling time to the hour and half hour with a partner. Finally, we traced the hands (red or blue, for the hour and minute hand) on a worksheet before writing the time. We had some indoor recess for awhile before reading "The New Baby Calf." Then we put together the cow projects that we started painting at secret centers. We put the head and body together before adding the udder, a bell, and tying on a tail. When we finished, we celebrated a wonderful week of projects by having a popcorn party. We watched "The Magic School Bus: The Busasaurus" and enjoyed a cup of popcorn. Then we packed up our Friday Folders, gave out prizes for twenty super star sticks, and handed out certificates for an all green week.
Have a fantastic Memorial Day weekend. We'll see you on Tuesday!
