Zero Hero and Aiden's Birthday

Our Thursday got off to a rousing start as students realized that it was the thirtieth day of school, a Zero Hero Day!  During our morning business, we searched for (and found) ten Zero Heroes hiding in the class. It was very exciting. We moved onto language arts rotations next. Students made tactile name art, using various items (cotton balls, beans, jewels, sticks, cheerios, etc.) to spell out their names. They were messy, but fun, to make!  Small groups also read and made "Quick as a Cricket" booklets with me and had secret centers. After snack (where we had a special Zero Hero treat) and recess, we worked on patterns in math. We made an AB pattern with unifix cubes and then colored a matching picture. Then we tried the same thing, except with an AAB pattern. It went pretty well. We will continue to discuss patterns throughout the year.

After lunch, we took a few minutes to practice and recite "Three Little Kittens"before going to theater with Ms. Nichols. She had students recreate several nursery rhymes on stage, including "Hey Diddle, Diddle," Mary Had a Little Lamb," and "Little Miss Muffet." When we came back, we did some rhyming and oral blending before having P.E. on the kindergarten yard. To end the day, we celebrated Aiden's 5th birthday. His mom and dad brought some delicious treats and even had a goody bag for students as we lined up for home. Don't forget to finish and bring in homework packets tomorrow!
