An Apple-y Day

We had an a real theme of apples today. We began our Thursday off with center rotations, like most other days. Our independent work was to create apple art, showing the parts of an apple: stem, skin, flesh, core, and seeds. At my table, we wrote in our journals about apples. We also started new secret centers. When students finished their work they could compete an apple maze. After snack and recess, we worked on counting and writing 8 and 9, and played some math games.

After lunch, we worked on our poem of the week, "Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater," rhyming, and oral blending before going to theater. Ms Nichols had us act like farm animals and then recreate the story "The Little Red Hen."  We went to P.E. after that, playing and using bouncy balls and hula hoops on the kindergarten yard. When we came back in, we had a tasting experiment for science. Guess what we ate?  Different kinds of apples! Students logged the color, size, and taste (sweet or tart) on a chart and then chose their favorite. It was a lot of fun!  We hope to continue to work with apples for a couple more days since we have so many. Thank you!
