The Letter G and Graphing Apples

Our Monday with a new letter of thew week, "G." We read "My G Book" and then made a shiny "Glitter on Gs on a Goldfish" tactile page during language arts rotations. We also finished up our Topic 3 math tests, wrote about friends in our journals, and had secret centers. After snack and recess, we tried something new at math. We took our remaining apples from last week and sorted them. Then we counted and graphed them according to color. We tried it as a class, and then we made our own graph. The students did very well for a first try at graphing!

After lunch, we learned our poem of the week, "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary" before doing some rhyming. Then, we introduced math Topic 4 with a partner spinner game. Finally, we wrapped up our study of apples by reading "Apples" and reviewing what we know before coloring and putting together an apple puzzle. We used jump ropes and hulas hoops at P.E. on the big yard. We ended the day by watching the "Harold and the Purple Crayon" video we started on Friday and didn't get to finish because of the fire drill. Our new homework packets went home today as well.
