Making Applesauce

Our Monday began by introducing our new letter, of the week "F." We read "My F Book" and brainstormed words that start with "f." We broke into small groups rotations and made a tactile page, "Feathers on F on a Football." Boy, are those feathers messy! Some groups read "I Can" and worked on F handwriting and words with me, while others had secret centers. After snack and recess, we worked on counting and ordering numbers 1-10 with a math cut and paste sheet.

In the afternoon, we learned our poem of the week, "Three Little Kittens." It is a long one, so students will definitely need to practice it at home. We also did some letter recognition practice, rhyming, and oral blending. After that, we made applesauce!  We went over our recipe, then prepared our ingredients (which are mostly cut up apples). Students washed their hands and tried to cut their apples as small as they could. Then we put the apple in an electric skillet with some cinnamon and butter and let it cook. We went to P.E. and let them cool down before coming inside. We ended the day by tasting our chunky applesauce. It must've been pretty good because several students came back for seconds (and thirds and fourths) and we didn't have any left over!  It also was a lot of fun to make!

Homework packets went home today, but make sure to take note of our special at home project. The "All About Me" book is due on Wednesday, October 9th. You have two and a half weeks to complete it. See me if you have any questions...
