Art, Popcorn, and a Birthday?

A fast moving morning led to a great afternoon ever today! We began by reading "F is for Flamingo in my "Animal Alphabet Stories" book.  We split into groups to work on an "f" phonics cut and paste page. Students were again asked to write "f" words on the back. Two groups went to secret centers, the other two took a Topic 3 math test and wrote about friends in our journals. After snack and recess, we discussed patterns in math. Today we used unifix cubes and made AABB and ABC patterns.

The afternoon  was the best because everything was so fun!  We started with a short story and then we had art with Ms. Maria and Miss Karla. We made tie dye art, a la the artist Batik. Students had some free draw while individuals went to Ms. Maria to drop paints on tied up paper pieces. We cleaned up and then had P.E. on the kindergarten yard with hula hoops and bouncy balls. When we came in, we were surprised by an unannounced fire drill. All was fine. When we came back, we had a popcorn party!  We earned one this week, so we relaxed with a cup of popcorn and watched "Blame it on the Rain," a "Harold and the Purple Crayon" episode. After that, we celebrated Ethan's fifth birthday on the outside tables. His mom brought in a delicious cupcake and juicebox. I think the class is going to get the idea that we get a cupcake everyday now!  Then we passed out green certificates for the week and went home.  Have a wonderful weekend!  And don't forget to work on those "All About Me" books!
