The Letter A

We started our second week of kindergarten today in Room 2. Monday began with us collecting Friday Folders, updating the calendar, introducing our new poem, singing our new alphabet song, and saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Then we introduced our first letter of the week,"A." We read "My A Book" and came up with words that start with the letter "A." At language arts rotations, students did the tactile worksheet "Apples on 'A's on an Alligator. They decorated the alligator and traced the "A"s with apple stickers.  My groups worked on "A" handwriting and words. The other two groups had secret centers for the first time. Secret Centers this week include: dot painting a rainbow at the art center, alphabet games at the computer center, identifying shapes at the math center, using blocks and puzzles at the play center, and writing shape words at the writing center. After snack and recess, we recited our new poem "Ring Around the Rosies" and had math. We used cubes to count and identify the numbers 1, 2, and 3.

After lunch, we sang "Wake Up Toes" and read the book "Round is a Mooncake." Then we started a project to make "Shape Guy" or Shape Girl." We colored in some eyes, hands, shoes, and a mouth. Then we cut out the pieces carefully. Then we got to choose our favorite shape from several choices: square, circle, triangle, rectangle, heart, star, oval, pentagon, and hexagon. After P.E. (where we played "Red Light, Green Light"), we glued the pieces onto the shape and folded accordion-style arms and legs. We finished by decorating and writing our name. Then we cleaned everything up, put up our chairs, passed out homework folders, and lined up for home. Let's have a great week!

Don't forget to to check over homework packets. They include a BIG packet of forms for parents to fill out. There is also a reminder about Tuesday 1:30 P.M. Early Dismissals starting tomorrow. Completed homework packets are due Friday. See me if you have any questions!
