Colors

We had a busy and productive Wednesday in Room 2!  We began with calendar activities. Then we read two stories: "Harold and the Purple Crayon" and "A is for Alligator." At language arts rotations, students completed an "A" cut and paste phonics page where they identified words with the "short a" sound. My groups read "I Can" and Harold and the Purple Crayon" before drawing our favorite part with a purple crayon. The other groups had their second secret center. After snack and recess, we had math. We used blocks to show the numbers 1 to 5. Then we counted objects to show what we know!

After lunch, we read "The Deep Blue Sea," finished up math, and read with a friend. Then we recited "Ring Around the Rosies" and learned a song called "Colors." When we finished, we tried a color experiment. We used color paddles to mix primary colors with other students.  It was fun! We played some "Red Light, Green Light" at P.E. before returning for another color activity. This time we used fingerpaint to mix the primary colors. We learned that red+yellow=orange, red+blue=purple, and blue+yellow=green. The class really enjoyed using the tempera paint. Then we cleaned up, reviewed our homework, and lined up for home!
